Autism and Friends

I don’t know how to make friends. I have acquaintances at work and I want friends to talk to outside of work. People think I’m either flirting or an ass because I’m either overly enthusiastic or very reserved. Am I alone? Will I ever have a friend?

Hey @Taphy22, welcome to our forums community & apologies for the late reply!

I've struggled with making friends too, especially at work & uni - you are not alone. It can be hard to find the right people and 'fit in' sometimes, but the important thing is staying true to yourself - whether that's being enthusiastic or reserved, the biggest lesson I learnt was that changing myself to fit in with people is exhausting. I tried attending events where like-minded people visited and bonding over shared interests like tv shows/movies - sometimes we click, sometimes we didn't - it was a bit of trial and error. I think taking away that pressure to make friends and focusing on just having enjoyable conversations helped me connect with people. I'm confident you'll find people you enjoy being around too 😊

Feel free to introduce yourself to the community in this thread and we've also got social spaces where you can connect with others, share your interests, etc! 💗
