I don’t remember the bang of the crash, just walking on the wing…innocent and cautious…. No hype….and dad talking about it, as more of the story came in…
just checking the real date… it’s 17th August and lil brother was born 25 th… so mum still heavily pregnant with him and 3 of us littlies. Wow. He died at 50.
His son texting with my son today… one day I hope I can tell my nephew that story…
I still have to be extra careful… all the issues… premature deaths…. lots of walking on eggshells…
actually all the 3 nephews deserve to know these circs of their fathers’ wardships….
Sad my daughter prefers to blame me for everything… she is so invested in blame game… She doesn’t want to know. Maybe… one day.

It's especially sad @Appleblossom because at that stage there weren't effective treatments and hospitalisations were long or indefinite. I know you're not a big one for pharmaceutical interventions but for reactive illness after a traumatic event (my words) it might have been speedily resolved. Those dark clouds... dispersing...
How do you feel? Is there any relief?

Wow that's amazing @Appleblossom to run into someone who knew the story AND was Dutch!
My uncle (also Dutch) worked on flying boats (Catalinas) during WW2 up near Newcastle where the Catalinas were based. Of course he had to be careful around military things at the time because he is gay, now married to my blood uncle (been together for last 50 years).
I hope you don't mind me commenting on your thread (I know I wasn't tagged). But I just wanted to ask if you thought it was helpful, or gave you some closure talking to this person? It seems to have sparked some curiosity in yourself and history. I hope that's a good thing.

That's amazing @Appleblossom
and I am really thrilled for you that you have met up with someone you can talk about it with, and whom it has great significance to as well.
Incidentally the Williamstown air base is not too far South of where I live. Occasionally they do training exercises up the coast, so I see them, or more the point, hear them.

Thanks for dropping in and sharing, all of you… @Till23 @Dimity @Emelia8 @Shaz51 @tyme
I love hearing all your individual perspectives. It kind of normalises my reality, where different bits resonate among us all.
Just the way normal conversations unfold, you said this, yadda yadda..,,thank you all so much. These angles of my family history are easier for many people to comprehend and cope with, than the many serious mental health diagnoses and deaths. Those topics are too big, but I listened a bit to his WWII stories, so it kind of was a deep conversation. I am probably over analysing.
The man looked concerned when I mentioned the crash drove my parents mad and we ended in orphanages, but within minutes, we spoke about boy sopranos, he had been one I reassured him about me listening to the boys choir in the cathedral as a young girl. I hope he does come to our singing group. He said he would.
My mood was up and down this afternoon. Making soup helped ground me, and I am meeting a Chinese friend to see a beautiful concert locally. Top act coming to town. My son was going to come but his sleep is out of whack and he needs sleep now so I found someone else. I should be fine.

@Emelia8 sorry to butt in here. It's completelu up to you of course, but I don't know if you want to modify your description of your location as I have fairly good idea about where you live, as it's not a large place you might be more comfortable by just saying south and the time it takes. Up to you of course. I have relatives around the area you would be, which is how I can guess

So @Appleblossom, obviously you don't need to answer this, but are you saying your parents lived in or near Newcastle? Or were your parents just concerned about an aircrash. Your link shows the plane crashed into houses in Newcastle

Appreciate your concern @Till23 🙂 and I altered the description a little to accommodate your suggestion. However it's a large area and many places it could be. I'm not worried 💕 that this description gives anything away.
