@Birdofparadise8 yes thanks princess. Now that he knows his sister's cancer is terminal he realises how important it is that I be able to contact him. He's given me his room number as well as let reception know my details. 

He's working out logistics of coming over to see his sister so he's been in a better mood as it's given him a purpose. I'll be his chauffeur and carer while he's here and I think I said to @creative_writer (apologies if it was someone else x) that I'm going to try and get the family to convince him to stay here in WA but imnot getting my hopes up in case everything goes south.
